MSCA – June 2026 Dinner Gathering, Conventions, “Featured Creatures” Art Reception, MORE!


Hiya, hello, and ‘sup, Digital Doodlers, Pencil Pushers, Ink Slingers, and Wordsmiths,

I’m looking forward to our June 2, 2026, dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s Pizza U of M, 3530 Walker Ave, from 6 – 8 pm.  Bring art, money for food, and a good time!

First up, Saturday, May 30, 2026, is Memphis Library Comic Con (details below) that had limited space, so other members and friends of the MSCA will be set up around town.  Check your socials for those locations.

As always, send photos and news to me before the last Monday of the month to make it into the next email, please.

MSCA: Dinner, Cards, Outreach, Shows, Books, Theatre, and more!

Ready for some more outreach?  We had a fun time at Ave Maria Home in March with another visit due on Tuesday, April 14 3-5pm; and then Sunday, June 7, from 3-5pm we’ll gather at A. Schwab’s for a panel discussion about comics and a portfolio review!  More details below, but please let me know if you can make it.

Thanks to all who made it out to the March Dinner Gathering!  The photos look like we had a great crowd.  I was sad to not be with you all, but was also glad to visit New York and the Jim Henson Creature Shop.  I have some images below to share from the Museum of the Moving Image – I’m always intrigued by concept art and story boards and hope you find them inspiring, too. MSCA: March Dinner Gathering And 2027 Art Shows

Greetings Pencil Pushers, Ink Slingers, Digital Doodlers, Wordsmiths, and Enthusiasts,

Always glad to see everyone out for the dinner gatherings!

“I’m not local to the MSCA, how can I participate?”  That’s a question I’ve heard before, and my suggestion is:

1) Share our emails to folks who may be interested in comics and cartoons, and ask them to sign up at midsouthcartoonists@gmail.com;
2) Come to art shows, buy comics, visit www.midsouthcartoonists.com and listen to www.drawingfunny.com podcasts;
3) Share our posts on social media;
4) Print and share posters, or save and share to your socials;
5) Create your own cartoonist meet-ups in your city;
6) and most importantly, per our Purpose, “Promote Cartoon as Art!”

I’m certain there are other ways to participate, what do you think you can do from afar? Anything I didn’t think of here?  Let me know.

Have news to help the MSCA promote Cartoons as Art?  Please send it to me before the last Monday of the month so I can share with everyone.

While we’d always hope you’d like to get the emails to share in news of promoting cartoon as art, if you need to be removed from the email list let me know and I’ll get that taken care of.

MSCA – January 2026 Dinner Gathering, Art Show Info, And More News

Greetings all! 
The 2025 year was crazy busy for the MSCA, including the current “Art of the Game” art show which is now running at the Memphis Jewish Community Center.  There is a copy/paste paragraph below for all your socials including the poster.   Installation images are attached.
I’m looking forward to 2026!  Not just our accomplishments in promoting cartoon as art, but in our individual accomplishments.
Speaking of which: what did you find your greatest accomplishment in 2025?  What do you hope to achieve in 2026?  Maybe something you share can be inspirational to the other members in our mid-month newsletter.  Looking forward to hearing from you.
