Greetings, MSCA’ers,
The date to turn in the art for the next (non-themed) art show, Everything and the Kitchen Sink, is our next dinner meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Please be sure to read the details below. There is also a copy/paste paragraph you can share online and in emails to your friends along with the attached MSCA Logo.
This type art show is to present anything new you wish to display, but also to show any artwork you’ve created over time to sell. So, if that piece didn’t get bought in one of the previous shows, now’s the chance to try again! Got that one piece you want to display again? Dust it off and bring it! We have a pretty big space, so I’m glad to take as many pieces as you wish to bring.
The hanging dates are June 10 – 12, 2025, and with Katie and DaMarco’s help this will be done pretty quickly. Please remember there is a $5/piece hanging fee due to the MSCA as well.
The show will run June 13, 2025 – July 17, 2025, in the upstairs gallery. It is ADA accessible, too, by elevator.
THE ARTISTS (So Far)
These are our current artists signed up for this show, but it’s not too late! Let me know if you’re interested in playing along: Alaina (what is your last name, please?), Greg Cravens, Max Dixon, Courtney Dunn, Devin Hodges, Katie Jones, Dale Martin, DaMarco Randle, Kevin Williams, and Lin Workman!
COPY/PASTE:
Please join me and the Mid-South Cartoonists Association at the Playhouse on the Square as we present Everything and the Kitchen Sink, an art show of all sorts of art to view and buy. The show runs June 13, 2025 to July 17, 2025, and is able to be viewed during box office hours and showtimes at 66 Cooper Street, Memphis, TN 38104.
RULES
RULE ONE: HAVE FUN! You can be as funny or literal with the submissions as you like. It’s a mixed audience, so we want to stay away from far-leaning politics (stay centered) and while innuendo is acceptable keep in mind that kids will be there, too.
Let me know if you are interested in participating and how many pieces you wish to submit.
Your art can be pencil and/or ink on paper, it can be a fine-art piece; it can be textiles, sculpture, photography, mixed media, trash-to-art – there are a gazillion ways to use art, and we’re always excited to see what people create!
ART FRAMING & NAMING
Art MUST BE turned in by the dinner gathering just before the event – we’ve all got time to get some art gathered!
Art MUST be ready to hang (wired on back or some other way). If it is not, and cannot be hung, we will not hang the art (or put it toward the back of the gallery, maybe on the floor – you don’t want that!).
The art does NOT have to be professionally framed, but DOES have to “look like it.” For unframed canvas, please use gallery-wrapped canvas and don’t forget to paint the sides of the canvas as well. (Art not properly framed for hanging will be rejected or likely hung toward the back of the gallery.)
Artists MUST submit their listing (affix it to the art piece):
-Title
-Media used
-Price or NFS (Not for Sale)
-Artist Name
-Ways to contact the artist
(Please write clearly or type on white cardstock paper. If we don’t receive this from you, your art may not be tagged with your details.)
COMMUNICATION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
If you haven’t already, artists MUST send a caricature and bio, including your website and/or social media, to be displayed. This will mostly happen on our website.
THE RECEPTION/PARTY
The members whose art is on display will be asked to bring along refreshments for the art show reception. These are always fun times to visit with one another, but also to network with attendees, share information about you with strangers, and promote, promote, promote yourself in person!
MONEY
The gallery will take care of sales: artist 100%, theater 0%.
There will be a $5/piece hanging fee, so charge for your art accordingly. This is to offset expenses such as postcards and postage for advertising purposes, transportation, etc. If you have questions about this, please let me know.
THE DISCLAIMER
Artists agreeing to participate in art shows will not hold the MSCA or the location liable or responsible for the artwork submitted.
If you have not participated in an art show before, we’re all here to help. Ask questions!
Thanks,
Your Faithful and Effervescent President,
Kevin Williams
