We have a LOT of wall space in the beautiful gallery to fill.  PLEASE REPLY THAT YOU ARE DOING ART and how many pieces you’ll add to the show.  I have also attached the gallery’s contract which you can return to me ASAP, please.

This show includes the art of the late Irvin Serenco which are free-standing pieces, and our art will line the walls.  Games are the theme, so anything from video games, board games, card games – it’s all GAME!  The only rule is nothing adult, political, or religious as this location is home to a lot of different people and children.  Just sticking to games gives us a LOT of options for the art.  If you have 3D art you’d like to show (or collectibles), there are display cases.
Come play with me and the Mid-South Cartoonists Association as we celebrate games in our collaborative art show, “Art of the Game,” with an art presentation in memory of Irvin Serenco.  It promises to be a fun time!  You can see the art during open business hours of the Jewish Community Center at 6560 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, from December 22, 2025 – January 30, 2026.  We will have an artists’ reception January 8, 2026, from 5 – 7 pm.  You can find more information at www.midsouthcartoonists.org
DALE MARTIN SHARES
Want to do some drawing from life? Thursday, 11/6 from 6-8pm the Dixon (4339 Park, Memphis) holds a session of “Stage & Sketch” (for ages 18+): “Enjoy an evening of figure drawing the fantastical, the dramatic, and the interesting, organized by Shelda Edwards, artist and coproducer of the game show Rainbow Rumble. Unlike traditional figure sittings, the model will be dressed in performance costume and assume dynamic poses. Please bring your preferred drawing surface (digital or paper) and drawing supplies. Limited extra supplies will be available. FREE”
By the way, the Dixon’s current exhibition is a mammoth show of prints from 1893-95, “L’Estampe originale : a graphic treasure”. This is a rare showing of the complete set of prints, featuring 95 works by 74 influential artists from France, Switzerland, Belgium, England, & the US. It’s on display thru 1/11/2026; all exhibits at the Dixon are FREE.
Coincidentally, Memphis Urban Sketchers is also meeting at the Dixon this month, drawing in the gardens &/or the museum this Saturday, 11/1. Urban Sketchers coordinator Martha Kelley writes: “Hey, sketchers! We’ll meet at Dixon this Saturday, 10-12 as usual. The gardens should be in full autumn splendor … we’ll gather inside the garden entrance near the fountain before and after.”

CON CARDS
Every first Wednesday of the month at 6pm at 901 Games on Broad Ave, come hang and play with Greg Cravens’ Con Cards.
There is also a Kickstarter for Con Cards.
Greg writes: That’s the deal.  Help me 1) raise the money to push this game out to as many cons and homes as possible, and 2) get you a fun thing to do while you’re enjoying the Cons we like, 3) Give us all one more fun, nerd thing to collect, 4) Pay the dang lawyer for the law stuff…and 5) if you’re a creator yourself with a comic book or webcartoon or series of novels… let me provide you with another thing to sell at your booth and another way to get your logo, characters, and ideas moving around in the world.
Drawing Funny Episode 85: JJM @ B&N G’TOWN
Show notes: In this first episode of the start of Drawing Funny‘s 6th season we get to hear from Memphis native now Wisconsin wordsmith John Jackson Miller about his early years in the M-town from a Batman book signing in the G’town. JJM was recently back in the midsouth to promote the Random House Worlds‘ release of “BATMAN: REVOLUT?ON” (his 2nd Batman novel and follow-up to “BATMAN: RESSURECTION“) at the new Barnes & Noble in Germantown, TN. He talks about the ’89 Batverse and WWTBD? (What would Tim Burton do?), plus we get to hear John’s origin story straight from the writer’s mouth and learn how he got from Memphis to Gotham City by way of strange new worlds in a galaxy far, far away!
John’s childhood sounds very similar to my own, and not just the growing up in and around Memphis parts. We were both named after our fathers who came from large families, and both of our moms were an only child- and knew Elvis back in the day. My wife Nicki and I have known JJM since before she and I were actually officially a couple, and often see him at local book signings, library appearances, and conventions around the mid-south. He was a fixture at MidSouthCon for many years, and is currently on a signing tour where he’s been hanging out with some super-folks like “Batman” movie executive producer Michael Uslan at the New York Comic Con, and in a convention green room with “The Flash” star John Wesley Shipp. At this JJM B&N book signing, Nicki and I ran into some friends of ours from MidSouthCon– and the Bluff City Batman!
In addition to John’s book signing life story audio, I catch you up on some local art scene news including details on the current Mid-South Cartoonists Association “Drawn Of The Dead” art show at Germantown Community Theatre, the group’s next game themed art show at the Jewish Community Center in December/January, the MSCA’s upcoming monthly dinner gathering at  Garibaldi’s Pizza on November 4th, this weekend’s Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention and Memphis Japan Fest, and next month’s Memphis Zine Fest!
Thanks to John Jackson Miller and Barnes & Noble for such a BATASTIC book signing event. I hope they’re have JJM back in town again soon. Maybe for a 3rd Bat-book..? We’ve had “BATMAN: RESSURECTION” and “BATMAN: REVOLUT?ON“, so I’m just throwing “BATMAN: RESOLUTION” out there if no one else has used it yet- just sayin’… 😉
