Game ON..!

Our MSCA “The Art Of The Game” art show starts today at the Memphis Jewish Community Center off Poplar Avenue. A few of us went out to the MJCC to hang the show on Sunday afternoon.

The gallery space is amazing and HUGE!!!

Kevin and Lin got to visit the space and take a tour of the MJCC earlier this summer with their awesome tour guide, Jonathan McCarter (MJCC Program Director for Cultural Arts). The community center is amazing, and also includes classrooms, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer pitch, cafeteria, theater, swimming pools and a water park, and so much more that you can see or imagine than by just driving down Poplar.

The art show is on display at the Shainberg Gallery at the MJCC. When you walk into the main lobby of the MJCC, it’s ahead and on the right just as you go up the stairs on the right.

There’s lots of local art celebrating all kinds of games in our collaborative art show, including some handcrafted wooden art pieces by the late Irvin Serenco. He was an incredibly talented woodworker- and former president of the Memphis Jewish Community Center.

Irvin passed away in 2023. He had a lifelong passion for transforming wood into beautiful works of art and furniture, and several of those free-standing pieces will be on display with the MSCA works thanks to his family.

Irvin and his wife, Deanna, established a fund to assist participants in the MJCC Senior Lunch Program, they funded the Infant Center at the MJCC (which bears their name in the school lobby), and they also funded improvements to the sound system in the renovated theater to make it more accessible to hearing impaired individuals.

The galleries great hanging system allowed us to hang the show in just under 2hrs, and the space is open and expansive. Even putting up the info cards for each art piece was quick and easy! Thanks to Jonathan McCarter for all of his help in coordinating this show with us and the Serenco family.

The art show runs December 22, 2025 – January 30, 2026 and we’ll have an Artists’ Reception on January 8, 2025 from 5-7pm.

The art show and reception are free to attend, and you can see the art during open business hours of the Memphis Jewish Community Center at 6560 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN (from I-240 take Poplar past Ridgeway towards Germantown- MJCC will be on the left before Kirby Pkwy).

Hope you can make it out to our last official MSCA art event of 2025- and our first of 2026!
