Hey, gang- hope you’re doing well and staying dry. Got a few things to share with you for this month, a look back at last month, and some things to look forward to next month.

On Friday, February 26th Greg Cravens and I (Lin Workman) headed downtown and near the river to be on Channel 3’s “Live At 9“ with host Kontji Anthony.

We were first on the show and were there to talk about the MSCA’s monthly dinner meetings at Garibaldi’s Pizza, our publications, podcast and some of our group’s 40 years of drawing funny in the midsouth.

Greg also drew a caricature of Kantji while we were live on the air, and as usual in record time.

The showed lots of pics from our events during the segment, including dinners and zine assembly.

We had a great time talking toons with Kontji, and met some fun folks from Cxffee Black in the green room before we went on. You can see their interview HERE.

If you missed seeing us on the morning show, you can see the entire MSCA interview HERE.

Unfortunately our prez Kevin L. Williams couldn’t be there for the spot, but fortunately for him he was out of town visiting Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, as well as the Museum of the Moving Image and several Muppet and Ghostbusters locations around NYC.

Be sure to ask him about his latest travel adventures at the next dinner gathering!

Speaking of which, our next dinner meet-up is Tuesday, April 7th from 6-8pm at Garibaldi’s Pizza off Walker/Highland near the U of M. We meet there on the first Tuesday of each month, and MSCA monthly meet-ups are free and open to the public.

We had a great turnout for our last dinner this month on March 3rd.

We had a lot of familiar faces show up…

…and several new faces attend including some of the folks we met from Cxffee Black and someone who saw the MSCA “Live At 9” spot earlier. Was glad to have them join us.

If you’d like to join us just bring a few bucks to order off the menu and be sure to introduce yourself. We always love to have folks bring along what they’ve been working on to show the group, talk toons, draw on jam pieces, work on tablets/laptops/sketchbooks, or doodle on napkins with us! We’ve also been known to have some fun freebies for attendees to enjoy. Please help yourself to some swag or bring any promos you’d like to share with the group.

If you are not old enough to drive yourself to the dinner event, please have a parent attend with you. If you’re not sure about meeting a group of sketchy strangers all by yourself, then feel free to bring along a friend or two with you. We’re the group in the large dining room on the right. You can see more pics from our monthly dinner gatherings on our Facebook page.

The Saturday after the Live At 9 interview, a few of our members were set up at the first Mid-South Collectible Toy Show out at The Venue at Bartlett Station.

That Katie Jones, Matt Bowers, Shawn Howe along with my wife Nicki and I tabled there. I had a 6ft table for my art, and an 8ft table for some of my collectible collection I was trying to sell off. I need the money and the space at home!

There was a good mix of toys, collectibles, comics, art, and cosplay…and even with no celebs there the attendance was great. Lots of families attended and all seemed to have a great time.

It was a short show- 9am-2:30pm, but it had free admission/parking and lots of photo opportunities.

They will be doing future Mid-South Collectible Toy Shows at the same location in June and August. Nicki and I will be set up out there again for the August 22nd show.

After this show, Nicki and I had to pack up, head home, unload, load luggage, and head up to Nashville for the remainder of the weekend.

We attended this year’s 2026 She Believes Cup double header soccer matches between Canada and Columbia and the United States and Argentina women’s national teams.

Canada and the U.S.A. teams won their matches, and the Americans won the overall tournament later in the week. Congrats to the US Women’s National Team!

We had a great time at Geodis Park and definitely got our steps in on Sunday!

Between walking around the soccer stadium and visiting downtown Franklin, TN earlier in the day we got in over 10,000 steps!

Before we headed back to the M-town on Monday, we swung by Rick’s Comic City in Nashville. We had a fun time shopping and talking with the staff. I miss the layout of their old location, but they seem to have more merch in this current location, and I was able to pick up a few more blank sketchcovers and a couple toys I couldn’t live without.

Rick’s Comic City first opened in Nashville in 2000 in a small 250 square foot store. In 2008, they moved to a larger 2200 square foot store in the Donelson Plaza. In 2015 they expanded to a second store in Clarksville, TN. Then starting with Free Comic Book Day 2018, this Nashville store moved to its current location to make room for the new Donelson Library.

They’re still in the Donelson Plaza, but only a few spaces from the precious location. They can now be found at 2720 Old Lebanon Rd Suite 104 next Homegrown Tap Room, and around the corner from McNamara’s Irish Pub.

In other news- the residents of AVE MARIA HOME have requested us back, and we have scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, 2026 & April 14, 2026. We hang out and draw cartoons with the folks there for about an hour, and have all the art supplies needed for the trip. Let Kevin know if you’re able to attend. The location is:

i hope you’re having a great month. I’ll be back again soon with more MSCA news. Until then…
