Just Another Sat-Art-Day

Today was a bit cold outside, but felt warm and toasty inside 901 Comics East today for this month’s Sat-Art-Day. We had a few new faces join us for four hours of drawing funny and talking toons.

Everyone brought something to draw on- either paper, sketchbooks, sketchcovers, or tablets. Lots of creativity and conversation was happening in the back gaming area of the comic shop.

So, what exactly is a “Sat-Art-Day” you may ask..?

You can join members of the MSCA at 901 Comics East on Macon Road every other month from 10am-2pm. We’ll be sketching and working on art projects while talkin’ toons and sharing art techniques.

Be sure to bring along a sketchbook, drawing tablet, portfolio, or feel free to use some of our art supplies we’ll have on hand such as pencils, pens, markers, Bristol. sketchcards, and more.

It’s not a drawing class, but is a great opportunity to try different mediums and techniques as well as ask/share art advice with other cartoonists.

The drawing event is free and open to the public, but anyone not old enough to drive themselves to the event needs to have a parent attend with them. And please feel free to ask questions, take notes, or share what’s in your sketchbook and/or portfolio.

Also be sure to bring a few bucks if you’d like to enjoy any beverages and/or snacks from 901 Comics’ “The Bar With No Name”. They have sodas, bottled water, chips, cookies, pizza, and more for sale.

Founded in 1987, the Mid-South Cartoonists Association (MSCA) is a non-profit organization comprised of professional cartoonists, aspiring cartoonists, and cartooning enthusiasts.

For more info please visit our website at www.midsouthcartoonists.org or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/midsouthcartoonists.

Our next MSCA Sat-Art-Day is April 20th.

Before that we will have our MSCA Drink-N-Draw event on March 13th, which is much like a Sat-Art-Day, but on a Wednesday night with beer available- both cans and on draft.

And before that event, we’ll have our MSCA monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Walker Ave. near the U of M on March 5th. It happens on the first Tuesday of each month. Click HERE for more details.

Last night, a few of us got together across the street at RP Tracks on Walker to go over the recent MSCA surveys Kevin and Dale sent out to our group. Unfortunately Dale couldn’t make it in person, but literally phoned it in! We went over the answers to the surveys, discussed a few business items, possible future group events, getting the word out, and how we can make the MSCA better going forward. If you didn’t get a chance to fill out a survey you can find the questions HERE. Just copy/paste the questions and your answers into an email to Kevin at midsouthcartoonists(at)gmail(dot)com or Dale at mscapub(at)gmail(dot)com – or print them out and bring them to one of our next events.

Hope to see you soon!
