July MSCA Monthly Newsletter

Greetings, Toonists!

I hope everyone had a chance to visit “The Art of the Mid-South Cartoonists Association: Everything and the Kitchen Sink” at Playhouse on the Square.  Congrats on a great art show, folks I talked to loved the show. I’ll have the art at the next dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s on Tuesday.

Special thanks to Katie for helping strike the show and tote it to the dinner gathering, too!

In August, expect the next art show details for October which runs alongside the Germantown Community Theater’s presentation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and will have a horror theme. At the end of December, we’re showing at the Jewish Community Center and that show will be game themed (video, board, cards, etc.).

The art shows are intended as a way to promote cartoon as art (and your other art styles), and hopefully make sales because it’s my hope folks can make a little money on their work! Hopefully, it’s enough and not too much.

Don’t forget to stay ‘tooned to www.midsouthcartoonists.org and www.drawingfunny.com for all your news and updates, as well as the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/midsouthcartoonists/

If you have any news to share, please send it before the last Monday of the month. I try to snag information when I see it, but I might miss it to share it otherwise.

More good information is below. Look forward to seeing you all soon!

MSCA President, Kev

SAT-ART-DAYS AT CASEY’S ART BOX

Sat-art-day is a great time to dedicate yourself to some art that you’ve meant to create, to do some sketches, bounce ideas off one another.  Dale once led us through a bit of portfolio review.  All sorts of great things can happen at Sat-art-day.  If you’re in Midtown or Downtown and want to ride out with me, let me know and I’ll get you information for that. We had a great turnout and look forward to being back at the end of the month.

NEXT SAT-ART-DAY! August 23, 2025, from 10am – 2pm.

BOB KIMBALL NEWS

Many will remember all the years that Bob Kimball was with us MSCA’ians, creating the most fabulous poster for “So Scary It’s Funny” art show in Overton Square many years ago and his (in)famous comic “Dr. Lovemonkey.”  On March 15, 2025, Bob shared:

Friends, I hope you’re safe, warm, and dry as you read this. I’m sorry to say I have some bad news. I have recently learned that I have stage four cancer. I will start radiation this week. The cancer is in my brain and in my lungs.

Even with health insurance, the bills will be staggering. Anything you can give to help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

From Bob in July-

With all of the sad and heartbreaking news this week, I’m happy to share some good news with you.

As most of you know, I was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. I’m happy to say that of the three tumors in my brain, two of them are completely gone and the third is 95% gone.

I am also very happy to say that both of the tumors in my lungs are gone!

My doctors were blown away. Results like this after only four months are very unusual. One of my doctors even used the word “remarkable”!

I still have some treatments to go, but so far the results are beyond promising! As you can imagine, Stephani and I are very relieved and very thankful.

Please keep sending those prayers, good vibes, and positive thoughts my way! It seems to be working
